The security situation in Ethiopia remains volatile.

There is an ongoing possibility of terrorist attacks in Ethiopia. Terrorists may attack with little or no warning. You’re strongly encouraged to maintain a high level of vigilance. Terrorists may use events such as days of national or religious significance to mount attacks. See Safety.

The Australian Government directed the departure of dependents of Australian Embassy staff in Ethiopia in November and all departed. We continue to advise ‘Do not travel’ (level 4 of 4) to Ethiopia.

A nationwide State of Emergency remains in place. The police have arrested and detained Australians and conducted searches of individuals and residences.
